Aotearoa – Earthquake-Salvaged Rimu Map Plaque
A celebration of Aotearoa, created from reclaimed New Zealand rimu salvaged following the Christchurch earthquakes.
This beautifully detailed wooden plaque brings together the familiar shapes of the North and South Islands with flowing decorative detail, framed by native birds and botanical elements. There is plenty to discover—from the sweeping pīwakawaka and delicate fern fronds to the intricate lines within the map itself.
The salvaged rimu carries its own history. Rather than being discarded, this beautiful old timber has been given a new purpose as a piece designed to celebrate the country it came from.
Measuring approximately 24o × 240 x 18 mm, the plaque makes a striking piece of New Zealand wall or shelf art without overwhelming the space. Display it on a small stand, lean it on a shelf, or hang it as part of a collected gallery.
Because this is reclaimed timber, every plaque has its own colour, grain and occasional marks from its former life, making each one genuinely unique.
